PLANNED GIVING

New Earth Recovery is unique in Skagit County, providing the only long-term residential recovery program in the region. It has earned the respect of the community and is known as a place where residents receive excellent support and care.

We are mindful and humbled that the sacrificial gifts from individuals, in any amount, make this ministry possible, along with the efforts of staff and volunteers. New Earth Recovery encourages donors to consider a variety of options for supporting this ministry through planned giving--contributions other than the typical cash gift. Planned giving in no way minimizes the importance of cash gifts, which are the lifeblood of the organization. Rather, a planned gift provides a way to make a contribution to New Recovery that is often advantageous to the donor.

Please find information below on planned giving ideas that may be of interest to you. For further information, you are welcome to call 360-848-9281.

Donating Securities

Giving stocks, mutual funds and other types of security can be more advantageous than giving cash. You will avoid any capital gains tax that would have been due if you sold the stock. Plus, your contribution would be valued at its fair market value, not at its original purchase price.

Donating IRA Funds

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and similar retirement plans are excellent tools to grow and accumulate personal wealth for future use. However, one drawback is that withdrawals are treated as ordinary taxable income. This can increase the amount of your Social Security benefits that are subject to federal income taxes. As a result, your income tax liability can dramatically increase. As an alternative, you can make a planned gift of a direct transfer from your IRA account to NER. Known as a qualified charitable distribution, this special distribution will not be treated as ordinary taxable income to you.

Designating New Earth Recovery as Beneficiary

You can easily name NER as a beneficiary of a wide range of assets and accounts, such as life insurance policies, retirement accounts, bank accounts, and investment accounts. It is easy to set up and, if necessary, change in the future. At your passing, the amount that your designate will be distributed to NER as a charitable contribution.

Last Will and Testament

A Last Will and Testament is typically the cornerstone of a person’s estate plan. It assures that your assets will be distributed to your chosen loved ones and causes that you value. There are a variety of ways for you to remember New Earth Recovery in your Will and make a testament of your concern for those who are in recovery.
